Objective:

Refresh your knowledge of CSF findings through movement=based learning.

​

Materials needed:

Note card, pencil, tape

​

Accessibility:

Setup:
  1. Assign the leader or one player to be the Captain

  2. Split all other players evenly into two teams.

  3. Each player receives a disease by notecard taped to their shirt.

  4. Have the two teams stand holding hands in parallel lines facing each other. 

Gameplay:
  1. The Captain picks a disease from the list below and calls out the CSF profile.

  2. The player with the disease representing that CSF profile runs towards the other team as fast they can and tries to break the linked hands of the players with their body.

  3. If the linked hands are broken, the player chooses a player from the opposing team to bring back to their team.

  4. If the linked hands are unbroken, the player joins the opposing team.

  5. If the wrong person starts to run, that person has to justify their CSF profile or join the opposing team.

  6. When one team is down to a single player, the other team gets a Champagne Tap!​

    • CSF Profile: Opening pressure elevated normal, RBC 0, WBC normal, glucose normal, protein high

  • Enterovirus:

    • CSF Profile: RBC 0, WBC high (lymphocytic predominance), glucose normal, protein normal

  • Idiopathic intracranial hypertension

    • CSF Profile: Opening pressure elevated, RBC 0, WBC normal, glucose normal, protein normal

  • Herpes encephalitis

    • CSF Profile: RBC high, WBC high (lymphocytic predominance), glucose normal, protein high

  • Bacterial meningitis

    • CSF Profile: RBC 0, WBC very high (neutrophilic predominance), glucose very low, protein very high

  • Tubercular meningitis

    • CSF Profile: RBC 0, WBC high (lymphocytic predominance), glucose low, protein high, acid-fast bacilli in Gram-stain

  • Syphilis

    • CSF Profile: RBC 0, WBC high (lymphocytic predominance), glucose low, protein high, positive VDRL

  • Subarachnoid hemorrhage​

    • CSF Profile: Opening pressure elevated elevated, RBC high, WBC high, glucose low, protein normal/high

  • Obstructive hydrocephalus

    • CSF Profile: Opening pressure elevated, RBC 0, WBC normal, glucose normal, protein mildly elevated. Lumbar puncture-induced brain herniation.

  • Worried well

    • CSF Profile: Opening pressure normal, RBC 0, WBC normal, glucose normal, protein normal​​
